The exhibition is held on the occasion of 95th anniversary of the Union of Polish Artists and Designers, 140th anniversary of the city of Katowice, and 60th anniversary of the Silesian circle of the Union. Usually such occasions serve to summarising and looking back; this time, however, they are only a background for the topical art review of contest character.
I Am, the motto of the exhibition, according to its originator, Prof. Tomasz Jura, is to encourage artists to mark consciously their individuality within the panorama of arts in the region. For over two hundred artists, this presentation of Silesian artistic milieu is an opportunity of free and unique expression.
The Union of Polish Artists and Designers was founded in 1911 in Cracow. Today it is the greatest Polish artistic organisation. Over 8 thousand professional artists, mostly the graduates from the Academy of Fine Arts and other artistic schools are the members of the Union. It is an association which aims at supporting artistic activity of its members and protecting their copyright laws.
