“Four Strings” String Quartet
The group was formed in 2004, on the initiative of Lucyna Fiedukiewicz. It is comprised of musicians from the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice:
Lucyna Fiedukiewicz — 1st violin
Grzegorz Witek — 2nd violin
Beata Raszewska — viola
Łukasz Tudzierz — cello
As members of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice they have performed with Placido Domingo, Mischa Maisky, Mścisław Roztropowicz, Witold Lutosławski, Krzysztof Penderecki, Kurt Masur, Jerzy Semkow, Stanisław Skrowaczewski and Krystian Zimerman, among others.
The group's repertoire ranges from Baroque to modern day pieces, including their favourite string quartets by J. Haydn, L. van Beethoven, F. Schubert and A. Dvorak. Frequent cooperation with outstanding artists of international renown has afforded them the opportunities to develop their own musical personalities, to observe the masters and to broaden their horizons. The group's favourites include compositions for an accompanying solo instrument; piano compositions by J. Brahms and F. Schubert; and bassoon compositions by F. Devienne and J. Françaix. Their interpretations are characterised by ingeniousness, originality and verve.
In 2009 “Four Strings” was awarded Grand Prix at the 6th edition of the Competition for a Recording Project “Forgotten Polish Music”, which was organised by Acte Prealable Publishing House. As a result they recorded an album with two string quartets by Zygmunt Noskowski.
January 2011 saw the release of the group's new album, which features two string quartets by Władysław Żeleński.
The concert is scheduled for 21 August, 2011, at 6 pm at the BWA Contemporary Art Gallery in Katowice.
