DECOUPAGE workshops — about ageing techniques
The dates, times and themes of these workshops are:
14 January, 10 am and 2 pm, 2012 — Introduction to decoupage
In the first session we will talk briefly about the history of decoupage. It will mainly be an opportunity to receive much useful advice – we will discuss the main problems that you might be faced with while working with this technique, as well as their resolutions (for example, how to arrange a serviette to prevent it from wrinkling, why using crackle sottile requires precision, or how long it takes for two components of a crackle glaze to dry completely). It will also be an opportunity to practice on small elements, before moving on to bigger projects in the next sessions.
21 and 28 January, 10 am and 2 pm, 2012 — Ageing techniques
For your convenience, in the second and third sessions we will be working on three objects at the same time; a tea box, a tissue box and a key cabinet. Decoupage is a time consuming passion – time is needed for drying, for devising and arranging the composition, and for meticulous work.
During the workshop you will learn:
— how to age an object using the ‘shabby chic’ technique, and applying varnishes and oil paints. We will practice the dirt texture and shading effects, as well as filling in cracks on the objects made so far.
— multiple uses of stencils and structural fillers. We will make elements which alter the perspective effect of the composition, likening it to a low relief. Then, we will rub its surface over with a special medium, which will provide the composition with a rustic chiaroscuro modelling.
Workshop Prices:
A pass for all three workshops costs 160 zł
There is no possibility to get single workshop entrance.
Workshop instructor: Anna Wenglorz

Decoupage (from a French word decouper, meaning to cut out) is the technique of decorating objects with purpose-made motifs cut out from paper serviettes. These paper cutouts are first arranged into a pattern and then glued on to a previously painted or suitably prepared surface such as wood, metal, glass, plastic or ceramics. To start with, the surface of the object is covered with multiple coats of lacquer so that the motif that has been stuck on to it blends smoothly in with the rest and is then impalpable to the touch. The motif then looks as if it were painted on.
Today decoupage art is enjoying its second youth. There are plenty of individuals and whole groups fascinated with this technique all over the world. For years, decoupage has evolved, creating new techniques and trends. This extraordinary art offers unlimited opportunities, as you can spend many creative hours endowing everyday objects with a personal touch.
