crochet workshop with Agata Oleksiak (OLEK)

The second edition of the Katowice Street Art Festival will be held April 20th -29th, 2012. Once more we will have an opportunity to take part in unusual art events. One of the festival's guest stars will be Agata Oleksiak (aka Olek), whose crocheted works have won great international acclaim, and have been shown at the Venice Biennale and at exhibitions in many countries, including Poland, the USA, Brazil, and Turkey. The artist comes from Upper Silesia in Poland but lives in New York, and is a multiple award winner. Her interests include scenography and costume design. Olek is renowned for crochet street art (guerilla knitting). She graduated from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and from La Guardia Community College. Her works include both small knitwear gems as well as giant crocheted pieces. Olek uses wool to create covers of sorts for various elements of urban space — for example, she once dressed the Charging Bull, a Wall Street symbol, in a pink ‘sweater’.

KATOWICE Miasto Ogrodów website is an excellent place to find out more about the festival.
