share your dream with Justyna Gruszczyk — actions involving city ‘scentification’ within the cycle ‘Inessentials’
The project ‘Inessentials’, which is planned for the whole year, involving artists, designers and the local community in a series of meetings, screenings, discussion panels, performances and urban actions. Eminent artists will try to stimulate the need to alter our closest environment, which might in turn lead to a change in our way of thinking about space as a form which affects most of our behaviour. Our guest artists' actions and realisations are supposed to encourage the public to re-design the unwelcoming urban space, converting it into a place where it is possible to settle, create and maintain bonds with others.

Is it possible for a real city to compete with the way it is dreamed about? Could the images from dreamland be more important? I would like to create a documentation of the collective subconscious, related to different cities. It is like giving these places some sort of feedback, showing them a mirror so that they could have a look and see if they recognize themselves in the reflected image.

Project EMPIRE OF DREAM collects dreams in different cities. These dreams will be recorded in mp3 format and then played in public areas at a whisper level. At the same time many places — cafes, buses, second hand clothes shops and more — will be filled with oneiric, drowsy-making scent. This scent will not actually be a perfume, more an impression that something smells pleasantly. It will stick in people's subconscious, tormenting them with a feeling that they should remember, recall something — but leaving them unaware what it might be.
The finale will be a gallery exhibition, providing the public with an opportunity to listen to the recordings of dreams in semi-darkness, enveloped in a familiar, yet stronger and more intense scent.
Currently, the EMPIRE OF DREAM is being realized in three cities: Toruń, Katowice and Bielsko-Biała.
