Magdalena Starska presents the inhabitants of Katowice with her original design of a root cellar to keep cucumbers.
The inspiration for her idea came from the need to prepare and store food for hard times. For a month, this available-to-all root cellar will serve as a shelter and refuge, a place of safety and abundance. Plentiful supplies will be within arm's reach. The artists suggests that peace of mind is attainable in exactly the same way. Just as in her previous actions, she works with the idea of merging public and private zones, an holistic vision of a city intertwined with the bodies of its dwellers. The artist thinks of cucumbers as batteries filled with the energy of love. Cucumbers amassed in one place are an oasis permeated by feeling of support and security. Magdalena Starska would like inhabitants to join the pickle-making, which will provide an opportunity to meet, work together, and share the serenity that accompanies the process.
