13th and 14th November from 4 p.m. to 8.p.m. in Klubokawiarni Redakcja — action Wyhaftuj się (Embroider Yourself)
The project entitled Power(lessness) combines three artistic actions. Our gallery will become a venue for another part of Monika Drożyńska's happening entitled Wyhaftuj się (Embroider Yourself), offering an opportunity to gather together and embroider some unwanted emotions. At the same time, there will be soap bubbles hovering in the city, and the gallery entrance will be resounding with the artist's looped laughter [audio sculpture entitled Pomnik (Monument), 2009]. This intense two day action by Drożyńska is intended to demonstrate the ineffectualness of artistic actions in urban space, their fragile and ephemeral nature, as well as the inability to exert any real influence on the lives of city inhabitants. The artist poses a question about the functionality of such actions, as their goal tends to be a short-lived impression and grabbing attention of accidental passers-by. In the context of her works, the virus of art, which attacks cities, seems to be weak and harmless.
On the other hand, the project Power(lessness) affords opportunity to create short-term communal situations in the urban space, which contribute to the feeling of being settled in a city treated as living, malleable substance which can be freely modified, kneaded and coloured.
