‘The Vicinity of Constellations’ — international exhibition of artists experimenting with celestial systems Since the dawn of time people have lifted up their heads to look at the sky. It was their way of transcending the limitations of their curious eyes and...
‘Constellations’, an exposition of a Belgian photographer Pierre Radisic, is the result of a prior co-operation between the artist, Atelier 340 Museum (Brussels, Belgium) and BWA Contemporary Art Gallery (Katowice, Poland). In 2012 we presented a small selection of Pierre Radisic’s photographs from the series ‘Celestial Bodies’ at our thematic exposition entitled ‘The Vicinity of Constellations’. However, the photographer developed this topic as a whole, delineating 89 stellar constellation on more than sixty female models. This is why Atelier 340 Museum and BWA would like to come back to Radisic’s works with an individual exposition entirely devoted to the series.
When we learned about Pierre Radisic’s ‘Double Potraits’, we had already been familiar with the artist and his works thanks to his participation in the thematic exposition ‘The Vicinity of Constellations’. These portraits of couples, displayed in the form of diptychs, bring to light the uncanny phenomenon of mimetism, which reminds us of our intimate sociological experiences. In fact, already when we were younger, we were often puzzled by the physical resemblance between individuals whom we observed in the social tissue, walking hand in hand in the street or sharing a table in a restaurant. Pierre Radisic posed similar questions about duality in the form of pictures. With the same pleasure that accompanied us during the discovery of Pierre Radisic’s works, we are hereby presenting his series to the public.
