Within the very specific framework of assessing Javier Fernandez and Jeanine Cohen’s works, the approach towards colour as expressed by both artists becomes all the more powerful when confronted with each other. Even more! Far beyond the idea of confrontation, the assessment of their work (both artist working on mural assemblages, always displayed on opposite walls) becomes akin even more so to a real exchange of energy while highlighting the differences and singularities inherent in both of them. Creating such a binding event seems to designate from the outset a meeting and union of an ideal loving couple. Whereas Fernandez’s work is based on mass and density, Cohen on the other hand restructures space by way of suspended phenomena and immateriality. In front of potent masculinity, we find a parenthesis of femininity.
