Filip Dujardin creates landscapes suspended between fiction and reality. He plays with elements of civic architecture, arranging it into surreal compositions, which problematise the urban space and present the contemporary cities as complex organisms. Dujardin enjoys situating buildings in unusual locations; for his project Publicité pour une œuvre d’art, he decided to print out his photographs on six huge tarpaulins and put them up in the park near the museum.
Filip Dujardin chose to merge Brussels and Katowice in the same manner he used for the Portuguese Guimarães and Dutch Middelburg. During his field visit in Katowice, the artist took numerous photos of the city and then used them to produce unusual panoramic landscapes. They attract our attention but also provoke thoughts about the organization of the surrounding space, what this city really is and what makes it different from other urban agglomerations.
