BWA Contemporary Art Gallery in Katowice

Roman Kalarus's posters, graphics and drawings demonstrate that he is an integral artist. He does not reserve any specific technique or genre for use with a particular expression. A poster, in his phrase, is a work of art, full stop! A commission might be an important impulse, but it is merely an impulse. All his works emerge from the actually existing space, from a rubbish dump of pop-culture, which is composed of commercial-media icons, symbols and signs. The entire Art consists of elevation, in the literal and figurative meaning of the word — whereby the opalescent elements of this rubbish pile, the ones that are especially energetic, are taken out, then modulated, juxtaposed and synthesised, and the result of this process is, indeed, the enabling of Art.
The publication begins with a text by Maciej M. Szczawiński; additionally, it includes the artist's short biography and a list of major exhibitions in which he has participated.
