Wrestling Girls. How to Train Them?
Choreographer Dominika Knapik has come up with a workshop that aims to shatter the stereotypical image of the ‘fairer sex’ and gender roles in society.

The workshop includes modern dance and theatrical exercises, while its main focus remains on the elements of American style wrestling. It is especially aimed at these females who would like to break with the stereotype of a winsome girlie — and who would love to embrace the role of a modern woman-warrior instead.

Stylist Hanka Podraza will be assisting the participants in the superhero makeover.

Then, there will be lots of things for superheroes to learn, such as:
    • falling down safely,
    • engaging in pretend fights,
    • putting on scary faces,
    • introducing oneself in the style of a comic book hero,
    • avoiding injuries in fake wrestling matches.

The workshops will be filmed, and the resulting video art recording will be presented under the title Wrestling Girls. How to Train Them? during the exhibition ‘Stand-off’ in the BWA Contemporary Art Gallery in Katowice.

The curator of the exhibition: Marta Lisok

The vernissage: 28th July 2018
